P.S. 'Cardiff Queen' approaching Weston-Super-Mare during May 1964.

A fine photograph, taken from the excellent book 'Coastal Steam Vessels of the British Isles', of the last paddle steamer to be built for P. & A. Campbell. According to the book, she undertook a 3 day trip to the Scilly Isles during the Summer Season of 1963. Her last excursion was in September 1966 to Lundy Island following which she was put up for sale ; the only offer coming from Cashmores of Newport, where she was broken up during 1968. What a sad loss! [860] [20201011]

Disembarking from the P.S. 'Cardiff Queen,' Lundy.
Disembarking from the P.S. 'Cardiff Queen,' Lundy. The arrangements were very similar the last time I was there, arriving aboard the P.S. 'Waverley'. The day was calm and fine and the views along the North Devon coast were stunning even from the bar! I arrived back at Penarth about 11 pm and staggered back along the pier! A postcard held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

Cardiff Docks, Negative - A view across to Penarth Head with the p.s. 'Cardiff Queen' foremost moored at the Pier Head with probably the single funnel p.s. 'Glen Usk' behind. Glen Usk was decommisioned in 1956 and scrapped in 1963 hence this photograph is prior to 1956 given the passengers seen aboard.
